Okehampton Castle

Okehampton Castle is the largest in Devon and consists of the masonry, Keep and curtain walls, all of which date from the fourteenth century. It is set in striking Dartmoor foothills and offer awe-inspiring views of the surrounding countryside. It offers a free audio tour bringing the history of this romantic ruin to life. Oakhampton Castle is set within extensive grounds that surround three fields, woodland and a river. There is a woodland walk with a self-guided walk leaflet available, as well as much interesting wildlife to spot (including birds of prey, hedgehogs, butterflies, lizards, grass snakes, foxes and deer).

Beautiful beaches

So many sandy beaches nearby, Sauntin Sands is just 17 miles drive away, taking around 30 minutes, makes a great day out for the family.

Go Ape! Haldon

Situated within 3,500 acres of gorgeous woodland and the only site with hilltop-to-hilltop zip wires, Go Ape Haldon offers your budding Tarzans the chance swing, fly, bounce and zip through the trees while taking in incredible birds-eye-views of Dartmoor National Park

Marwood Hill Gardens

With 20 acres of private garden, Marwood Hill Gardens is a magical day out for the whole family. Enjoy the impressive collections of plants, shrubs and trees, as well as the tranquil views and surroundings. There is plenty of wildlife to catch the little ones' attention and be sure to visit the award-winning tea room for home-made cakes & scones, scrumptious sandwiches and delicious soups.

Cobbaton Combat Collection

Cobbaton Combat Collection is home to more than fifty vehicles including tanks, one a Gulf War Centurian, and a recently added Warsaw Pact section. Also on display are World War II British and Canadian military vehicles, war documents and equipment, along with a section on 'Mum's War' and the Home Front. Displays of uniforms, kit and equipment will give visitors a taste of what life was like for a soldier during 1939-1945.

Surfing

North Devon is packed with surfing areas, including 'Ulitmate Surf School' which is just 30 minutes drive away 

Milky Way Adventure Park

For a fun-filled day out for all the family visit this brilliant Adventure Park. There’s something for all ages including a large outdoor adventure playground, assault course, rides and roller coasters. Ride The Cosmic Typhoon which is the tallest and fastest roller coaster in Devon! Get lost in the giant 3,000 sq meter maze, have a go at painting, watch entertaining live shows or even see some birds of prey. For the smaller visitors there’s the Toddler Town, Fantasy Farm and the Milky Way Railway. Everyone in the family can enjoy their time here whatever the weather!

Exmoor Zoological Park

Where better to take the little ones out for the day than the zoo! Exmoor Zoo specialises in small animals in particular, many of which are endangered, such as the golden-headed lion tamarin. It achieves an educational fun-factor through the use of hands-on and interactive activities. It is surrounded by picturesque views and maintained gardens and has something for everyone plus there are lots of activities in the summer including meeting the animals and even getting the chance to hold some!
